I wasn't going there but....

If you are a quilter who "hangs out" with other quilters on a variety of social media you may have seen a burst of interest in four patch quilts along with the hashtag #apqquiltalong.  Apparently American Patchwork & Quilting magazine is publishing four (three?) 4-patch patterns in its current issue and encouraging quilters to join them in sewing the patterns and posting pictures of their projects on Instagram.  I wasn't going there.  I certainly don't need another project.  But, I really like four-patch blocks as you can see from my assortment of little four-patch quilts I've blogged about in the past.  I even have a great antique four-patch quilt top (lower right picture in the collage above).

I saw a picture of an indigo and white doll quilt on the Quilt Index once and wanted to make one of my own.  But, this time I'm going bigger.  I love my little quilts but I find quilts in the 36" x 48" range display better in some of my larger baskets, on shelves and even on the wall - bigger impact. This is especially true if they are hand quilted.

One of the things I really like about the four-patch block is it is so very simple and quick to sew.  My indigo and white (with a pinch of red) four-patch quilt is starting to come together.  Yeah, I went there.  Hashtag #couldnotresistthefourpatch.
